Anniversary in Chicago...

How to make bec happy:
Take her to dinner with the cast of Wicked and give her great seats for the Chicago show :)

Kev and i are in Chicago celebrating our 10th anniversary with a very mini-trip (2 nights) before i have to go back home and keep freaking out about VBS. Part of his anniversary gift to me was tickets to see Wicked again and to have dinner with the cast. We ate with 5 members of the cast and had a lovely time. Pictures of our evening are here. Dinner was delicious and i managed to NOT screw up my diet that much :) We chatted with the cast members, took pictures, and got to know other Wicked fans. It was really a neat experience for us and a real treat for me.

The show was very good. It's a very different show than the first time we saw it 2 years ago at the beginning of its run here in Chicago. It's less of a "clone" of the original broadway cast and more of its own show now, which i think speaks highly of the show itself as well as the cast. We really liked Elphaba, the Galinda was quite different from the one we saw last time, and the Fyero was REALLY different, but overall Hubby hit the nail on the head when he said the last time we saw it it was "polished" and this time it was more heartfelt. I cried during Defying Gravity AND For Good. I'm such a sucker for broadway.

There was some weirdness though. About 20 minutes to the end of the show, this woman screamed and clapped her hands up over her head (during the love scene no less) and there was big commotion and confusion as she and 3 of her friends got up and left the theatre. I give the cast all the credit in the world because they didn't even flinch...just kept singing. What was odd though was that as the show was ending, a couple of police officers came in with the ones who had left, and they pointed out a guy and he was led out from the theatre. All of this was going on during the curtain call.

As we left the theatre, i was very bothered that people were talking more about the commotion than they were about the EXCELLENT performance, and i said so to kev. This woman turned around and said, "well, i've seen it six times so its not that big of a deal." And i said to her directly, "not all of us are that fortunate". I just don't understand why some stupid commotion was more noteworthy than some truly amazing perfomances and talent.

It was a magical evening for me...having such an intimate broadway moment...the dinner...paired with watching those characters performing made tonight very special.

Today marks the day we have been married 10 years. I don't really know how i feel about it to be honest (10 years seems like a long time), but on the day after our wedding our first part of the honeymoon was to see a broadway show (on tour). We saw the revival of Showboat. I find it fitting that our 10th anniversary celebration also includes a broadway show, as broadway has always been a part of our relationship--even when we were dating.

Tonight we have dinner reservations at the signature room at the Hancock Tower. We are also thinking about the shedd aquarium, and he's taking me to Tiffany's to get my anniversary gift. I'm not even sure what i want from Tiffany's but i'm SURE i'll find something. lol.

We're even having room service for breakfast. How decadent.

Softball.

I have not played softball for probably 20 years or more. Last night, I played with the Court Street team. I'm not sure what on earth possessed me to try to start a team here, but I did. We had a really good time playing. We lost 15-3. It was kinda pitiful, but once we figured out what we were doing, we played really well. Yay! We play every tuesday night...i feel like a kid again.

Back in RFD

I'm back in rockford. It was a fairly easy trip...not too quick though. It's a long drive. Made longer by the fact that there is NOTHING to look out. Illinois is boring. I did stop at the outlets in Edinburgh though cuz well, I need tennis shoes for walking. Now that the weather is nice I want to get out and walk. Plus...I'm playing softball...yes me. We have a co-ed church team. It should be fun (or deadly, we're not sure just yet).

Have a great week all.

Happy Monday

Happy Monday!

Saturday was an awesome day! The balloon race was great! Mom, Holly and I had a great time chasing the balloons. The "official chasers" told Holly what a great driver she was and how impressed that they were with how she was able to keep up with them and turn in and out of the back roads we were on. The CD of pictures that I took will be mailed to Becky this week so she can load them onto our blog. Saturday evening was also great! We had a great dinner and the Kingston Trio were great!

I hope everyone has a great week!

Kingston Trio!

We met Mom, Dad, Gwen, Benetta, and Brandon for dinner at Rocky's before the show and then went downtown for the concert.

We had a great night! Since I was a little girl I've wanted to see two groups in concert...Peter, Paul and Mary and the Kingston Trio. Well, about 2-3 years ago i finally saw PP&M and tonight...I saw the Kingston Trio! It was awesome. They played my favorite song: MTA (Metropolitan Transit Authority Protest Song) as well as many favorites from my childhood. I sang along and clapped and was so happy at the concert. I *know* my presence seriously brought down the median age of the audience though...most were greyhaired or almost grey. Apparently few people my age even know who the Kingston Trio is. Shame! Well...after the show i waited patiently and i got to meet the current members of the group and get autographs. Click here for pictures!

It was a great concert. Thanks for the tickets Mom and Dad!

Holly's lobster hat picture is up...

Great Balloon Race and CHASE!!!

DSCN2214, originally uploaded by beccaminister.

Brandon did indeed get to ride in the balloon for the whole race and Pappy of course went with him. This is a picture from the landing. The yellow balloon isn't their's...their's is the one behind it and to the right...kind of checkered. We (mom, gwen, benetta in the van and me in my vehicle) spent the morning chasing the balloons throughout Jefferson county, trying to catch up to it for when they landed. I actually saw them land, but was in this subdivision, instead of the one behind it where they landed...it was really neat though! Pappy took pictures and video from the balloon and mom and benetta have pics too...hopefully they will forward them to me to share here. What a Day!!

Bec's weekend and fun monday...

So, Friday night i went out to my garage to get in my car to come to Church for something and when i opened my door the smell of gas nearly knocked me over. There was gas pouring out from my car. Unfortunately, the Toyota dealership isn't open on Friday nights or Saturdays or Sundays and couldn't see my car until monday morning, and i was afraid to start it...so i put some sand down over the gas and put a can under the leak to catch everything as it dripped. I bummed rides to church over the weekend. Church was ok, but nothing spectacular. Sunday was long and trying.

This morning, i called AAA to have them tow me out to the dealership, but because it was a gas leak, they would not tow the car until the Fire Department had ok'd it. SO i had to call the fire department. I did not call 911, but just the regular number. I was informed that i *had* to call 911 because there was gas present, so i did and the firemen came lights and sirens to my garage. They moved my car out of the garage (pushed it out) and cleaned up the gas spill. In the meantime, i called my Apt. Manager so he could be there incase his property blew up. So, there were 3 firemen, the Apt. Manager and his mantainance guy all there. The car didn't blow up, and they sprinkled their magic dust on the gas to soak up the remainder of it.

Then AAA showed up and towed my car to the dealership (thanks again mom for AAA). THe dealership checked out my car and found my fuel line had a huge gash in it. They have to order a new fuel line. It will be tomorrow at the earliest that it will arrive and they will be able to fix it. Luckily it's only gonna cost about $225, so that's not too bad.

Can anyone top Firetrucks on a monday morning?

A Trying Tuesday...

Today was a bit nuts in Rockfordland. While the weather is GORGEOUS...75 degrees, sunny, light breeze, the rest of the day was not so great. I had a staff meeting this morning, and as always it was interminably long. Found out one of my youth kids was in the ICU, he found out he's diabetic--the hard way. Luckily his dad is an RN and noticed the symptoms and got him to the hospital in plenty of time for him to not have been in danger. When I went to visit him, they wouldn't let me up. The lady didn't believe i was clergy. Had to show my ordination certificate and everything. I guess it's because i'm young and female...ha! During all of this i get a phone call from Kevin and he's screaming in pain...oh the joy of a kevin kidney stone. A friend of his Chris-Rachel took him to the ER, but he passed the stone before they even got him registered. He's doing ok now. Now we've got to finish our taxes. Happy Tax Day!

Holly is in

I am in--let's hope Guy Edward gets in--when he has time--just back from my final jaunt to the post office for taxes. Robert is off today--he spent 3 hours and 15 minutes in the dentist chair--part of a tooth that had a cap on it came out--then he went to dr --rash on arms--probably from diuretic he started in dec to help bring his blood pressure down--his blood pressure was great today but had to stop the med--now he is mowing--jp came up to sign his taxes for mailing and he just picked brandon up at school--after school tutoring today.

{Phyllis--you need to get logged in.
